New Year’s Eve concert and ‘I puritani’
René Barbera rings in the new year with two engagements for Austria’s Tiroler Festspiele Erl. On December 31, Barbera and soprano Marina Monzó join conductor Michele Spotti and the Orchestra and Choir of the Tiroler Festspiele Erl for an energetic concert of Italian opera favorites. The program features selections for Guillaume Tell, L’elisir d’amore Rigoletto, La traviata, and others.
On January 4, Barbera returns to the role of Lord Arturo Talbo in Vincenzo Bellini’s bel canto masterpiece, I puritani, under the baton of Lorenzo Passerini. Barbera has previously sung the role for Washington Concert Opera, Festival Radio France Occitanie Montpellier, and Staatsoper Stuttgart — a performance that is available on DVD or streaming from Naxos. The incredible cast includes Zuzana Marková as Arturo’s beloved Elvira and Mattia Olivieri as his rival, Sir Riccardo Forth.
