‘Il barbiere di Siviglia’ in Verona
On June 21 and 27, René Barbera is set to reprise one of his signature roles, Count Almaviva in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia at the famed Arena di Verona, the third largest surviving Roman amphitheater in Italy. Mr. Barbera has previously performed this role to great acclaim with several of the world’s leading opera companies, including the Opéra National de Paris, Wiener Staatsoper, Teatro di San Carlo, LA Opera, and the New National Theatre Tokyo, among others.
This revival of Hugo De Ana’s production transports the audience to a lush, whimsical garden, complete with vibrant scenery and intricate stage designs that capture the playful spirit of Rossini’s beloved opera. The sparkling cast also features Vasilisa Berzhanskaya as Rosina, Mattia Olivieri as Figaro, Paolo Bordogna as Bartolo, Roberto Tagliavini as Basilio, Marianna Mappa as Berta, Fiorello/Ambrogio, Nicolò Ceriani as Fiorello/Ambrogio, Domenico Apollonio as an official.
