‘La traviata’ at Opéra National de Paris
Commencing the new year, René Barbera returns to Opéra National de Paris in the role of Alfredo in Verdi’s La Traviata, led by conductor Giacomo Sagripanti. This production, directed by Australian Simon Stone, ingeniously reinterprets the narrative within a contemporary context, portraying Violetta as a social media influencer forced to relinquish her love for Alfredo.
Sharing the spotlight with Barbera are Nadine Sierra and Kristina Mkhitaryan (February 25) portraying the character of Violetta Valéry, Ludovic Tézier as Giorgio Germont, Marine Chagnon as Flora Bervoix, Cassandre Berthon as Annina, Maciej Kwaśnikowski as Gastone, Alejandro Baliñas Vieites as Il Barone Douphol, and Florent Mbia as Il Marchese d’Obigny.
Barbera’s scheduled performances as Alfredo at the Opéra Bastille are on January 21, 23, 27, 30, as well as on February 2, 5, 8, 10, 14, 16, 20 and 25.
