DEBUT AT THE NEW NATIONAL THEATRE IN TOKYO

René Barbera makes his highly anticipated debut at the New National Theatre in Tokyo this month, singing Count Almaviva in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia. Fresh off the heels of his performances as Count Almaviva at Genoa’s Teatro Carlo Felice in January, Mr. Barbera garnered acclaim for his “bright and ringing timbre, and extensive, confident and precise agility as he showed during the performance.” (Ieri, Oggi, Domani, Opera!)

His upcoming performances in Tokyo will take place on February 6, 8, 11, 14 & 16. The production by Josef E. Köpplinger is set in Francoist Spain in the late 1960s. Mr. Barbera shares the stage with a cast full of renowned Rossini singers, including Wakizono Aya as Rosina, Paolo Bordogna as Bartolo, Florian Sempey as Figaro, and Marco Spotti as Don Basilio, among others. Antonello Allemandi conducts.
