Fresh off a triumphant performance of Count Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Opera National de Paris which prompted Olyrix to proclaim “[he] keeps the beauty of the song even in the recitatives and its power even in the vocalizations,” René Barbera prepares to make his house debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich as Ramiro in La Cenerentola March 10, 13, and 16.
His last performance of the role at San Francisco Opera brought praise from The Examiner, who asserted, “Barbera’s High Cs are full and effortless, his crowning High D above it completely secure and radiant. Barbera is the ideal voice in one of the composer’s best-ever tenor roles.”
Conductor Francesco Angelico will lead the superb cast, including
mezzo-soprano Margarita Gritskova as Cenerentola, in Jean-Pierre Ponnelle’s witty production of Rossini’s beloved opera buffa.
