‘Guillaume Tell’ in Tokyo

This month, René Barbera makes his debut as Arnold in Rossini’s Guillaume Tell at the New National Theatre in Tokyo. The opera, known for its grandeur and historical themes, is based on Friedrich Schiller’s play William Tell, which tells the story of the legendary Swiss archer and his rebellion against the oppressive Habsburg rulers.

Mr. Barbera stars alongside an exceptional cast that includes Gezim Myshketa as Guillaume Tell, Hidekazu Tsumaya as Gesler, Sudo Shingo as Walter Furst, Olga Peretyatko as Mathilde, and Tanaka Taiki as Melchtal. The cast also features Yoko Yasui as Jemmy, Toshiaki Murakami as Rodolphe, Yasuhiro Yamamoto as Ruodi, and Hiroyuki Narita as Leuthold. Kazushi Ono will conduct the production, which is directed and designed by Yannis Kokkos, known for his visually striking productions.

The performances of Guillaume Tell are scheduled for November 20, 23, 26, 28, and 30.
