HOUSE DEBUT AT OPÉRA ROYAL DE WALLONIE-LIÈGE IN ‘LA SONNAMBULA’ (CANCELED DUE TO COVID-19)

René Barbera makes his highly anticipated house debut at Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège as Elvino in a new production of Bellini’s La Sonnambula. Director Jaco Van Dormael brings his renowned poetic imagery to create the pastoral idyll and touching innocence of the heroine, Amina, to this profoundly endearing work. Speranza Scappucci conducts the Orchestra and Chorus of Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège.

Performances take place on March 13, 15, 17, 19 & 21. The production will be streamed live on Thursday, March 19, via France TV platform, beginning at 8 pm. Mr. Barbera shares the stage with Nino Machaidze as Amina, Marko Mimica as Il Conte Rodolfo, Shiri Magar as Lisa, Angélique Noldus as Teresa, Kamil Ben Hsaïn Lachiri as Alessio, and Benoît Delvaux as A notary. Previous acclaim as Elvino:

“Rene Barbera found the character’s inner appeal, with an assured, warm voice, lusty high Cs, and a stage presence evoking familiar tenor tropes (the solid body, the dark beard, the sense of humor).” (The Washington Post)
